Trail Expansion

PUBLIC NOTICE
Goodwin College (is expanding its 2.5-mile network of trails, which provide an ideal opportunity for East Hartford residents to enjoy peaceful, passive recreation and view fauna and wildlife along the banks of the Connecticut River. Located in an urbanized area with limited open and green spaces, Goodwin plans to expand its network of trails known as the South Meadows in East Hartford, Glastonbury, and Wethersfield. Goodwin is hosting a community meeting on Oct. 4, 2018, at 5 p.m. in the River Room, 195 Riverside Drive, East Hartford. All are invited to attend and learn more about the trails.

The Goodwin trails extend from the Pavilion next to the outdoor learning lab south along the banks of the Connecticut River. Parts of the trails are paved. The Phase IV project would extend the paved portion to the Wethersfield line, add a handicapped accessible picnic area, and upgrade fencing along the access road leading to the trails. The trails are located off South Meadow Lane, which is off High Street across from the Early Childhood Learning Center at Hockanum School.

To assist with the planning and construction of the trail, Goodwin is seeking a grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Recreational Trails Program. At this meeting, area residents and organizations will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed trail.
