Volunteer Income Tax Assistance at Goodwin

Goodwin College's Business and Manufacturing Center has opened the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site and this season has prepared nearly 100 tax returns for local residents. The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less; persons with disabilities; and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. Local IRS-certified volunteers, including Goodwin College Accounting and Business students provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Goodwin College is providing this IRS-sponsored program in collaboration with the United Way and the Village for Families and Children. Operating hours at Pent Road for this service are Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone interested in setting up an appointment can contact Ernie Varela at (860) 913-2155 or evarela@goodwin.edu.
