U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign through April 30

A friendly reminder from Campus Safety & Security: from April 2 to 30, the East Hartford Police Department will be out looking for distracted drivers as part of the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign, a high-visibility effort to enforce distracted-driving laws. Drivers continuously ignore their responsibilities behind the wheel, and distracted driving is a growing threat. The EHPD is teaming up with the Connecticut Department of Transportation during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) National Distracted Driving Awareness month to make sure all motorists keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. Drivers ticketed for this violation can be fined $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second offense, and $500 for subsequent offenses. According to the NHTSA, 3,450 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2016. The EHPD and the CT DOT urge you to put your phone down when you get behind the wheel. Please remind your family and friends to never text and drive.

Did You Know That April Is Sexual Assault Awareness Month?

The Goodwin College Office of Student Engagement, the Office of the Title IX Coordinator, and W.I.S.E. (Women Invested in Securing an Education) are working to raise awareness on campus about the impact of sexual assault. If you would like to have your story shared or if YOU would like to share your story or share words of support, you are invited to do so at the Share Your Story-Share Support Event, Tuesday, April 10, 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Auditorium at One Riverside. To participate: 1. Submit your story, poem, or words of support in the body of an email to StepUpSpeakOut@goodwin.edu 2. A committee member contact you to discuss how you would like to have your submission presented. You can choose to do so yourself, or a member of the student body can read it. 3. You will be required to present your submission before a small group to ensure that you are prepared. Note: crisis advocates from Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence will be on campus during the event, to provide support for anyone who is in need.
