CALLING ALL GHOULS: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Goodwin College SGA is planning its second annual Haunted House, scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The SGA is looking for volunteers to help with decorations, set-up, running the event, and — most exciting of all — being an actor! This is a great chance to connect with your inner zombie, werewolf, or vampire. If interested, please contact Kaleigh Miller at kmiller1@goodwin.edu or Lester Castro II at lcastroii@Student.Goodwin.edu.

Important Message from Goodwin College Online Studies

The Blackboard will not be available to students until Monday, September 7. Goodwin College is switching to a new Blackboard platform, and students will have an opportunity to attend one of the multiple workshops being scheduled the first week of classes. Times, dates, and locations will follow soon. The new Blackboard Learn does not support the new Windows 10 Edge Browser that is installed on new or updated computers and laptops. It is recommended that an alternate browser should be used for the time being, until Blackboard has tested and certified browsers with the Windows 10 operating system. Thank you for your patience, and please feel free to call the Blackboard Help Line at 860-913-2152 if you have any questions.

New Security Company Begins Providing Services August 17

SSC, Inc. will begin providing uniformed security services at Goodwin College beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 17. This is a change from our previous provider, Allied Barton. SSC is a Connecticut-based company with local offices in Rocky Hill. They provide security services for other colleges including Albertus Magnus, Rensselaer at Hartford, Manhattanville, and Eastern Nazarene. SSC officers will provide a uniformed security presence at all Goodwin College classroom facilities. Some of the guards from our previous provider will be transitioning over to SSC, and we look forward to their continued fine security work. Several new guards have already started training and will be at Goodwin full time beginning August 17. We look forward to the improved security services SSC will provide to the entire Goodwin Community.

On a related topic, Goodwin College has recently purchased a new security vehicle that will provide high visibility security patrols around all of our campus properties.

STUDENT PARKING

This message is shared on behalf of Rich Vibberts, Director of Campus Safety and Security:
Beginning Monday, August 17, the parking of personal vehicles will be restricted in the lot between 195 and 167 Riverside Drive weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. These spaces are needed for Early Childhood Magnet School faculty and staff members. Classes do not begin there until Wednesday, August 26, but the parking spots will be needed starting next Monday.

Another important item to note: beginning August 26, school busses will be dropping off and picking up students in front of 167 Riverside. Please remember that it is illegal to pass busses when their red lights are flashing. This practice is particularly important as the bus passengers will be first and second graders.

Classes at 167 start at 7:45 a.m., so drop-off is expected from approximately 7:35 to 7:50 a.m. each day. School gets out at 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Busses will be waiting to pick up students from approximately 2:55 to 3:05 p.m. each day. On Friday, school gets out at 12:00 p.m. Busses will be waiting from approximately 11:55 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.

Finally, please note that parents will be dropping off and picking up children in the parking lot located between 167 and 133 Riverside. Vehicles will be entering across from Ensign Street, and exiting near the school itself. This parent drop-off traffic will be traveling in a one-way-in and one-way-out direction.

Your assistance and diligence on these points are critical to the safety of these younger students on the College campus.

My thanks in advance for your help.
